About the Session:

This session will explore and provide an understanding of how schools can infuse layered team structures to systematically identify and support at-risk learners from the school to district levels. Join Amber and Lorna as they share a practical structure for schools to support teachers and provide timely and responsive supports for students. Numerous examples will be shared from a variety of school contexts.

About the Presenter(s):
Lorna Hewson

Lorna Hewson is an educator with more than two decades of experience in schools and districts and has just recently moved into full time consulting with Jigsaw Learning providing supports as a Lead Learner. Receiving her BEd degree from the University of Calgary, she completed her MEd degree from the University of Lethbridge in Educational Leadership. Lorna was a Coordinator of Inclusive Learning Services for Wolf Creek Public Schools in Central Alberta from 2015-2017. Prior to that, Lorna served as an elementary teacher, a divisional lead teacher in Social Studies and Math K-12, School Improvement Facilitator and a Director of Student Learning Services with Livingstone Range School Division. In 2008, Lorna was a recipient of the Alberta Excellence in Teaching Award and is a past chair of the provincial Executive Council of the Alberta Assessment Consortium. Lorna’s divisional experiences have focused upon learning support and inclusion, effective assessment and grading practices, pyramid of interventions development, curriculum implementation, coaching and mentoring teachers and inclusive practices at the classroom, school and divisional level. Lorna also has served on a number of divisional and zone committees related to AAC, professional development, Alberta Teachers Association and Regional Collaborative Service Delivery (RCSD). Request for cancellation or refund must be received in writing (fax/email) at the CARC office a minimum of 3 FULL business days prior to the event start, or registration fees will apply and refunds will not be issued. If you are unable to attend a session and unable to provide three FULL business days’ notice, please feel free to delegate an alternate to attend in your place.
