About the Session:

Gail Boushey and Allison Behne of The 2 Sisters Company will share with you how to create classroom routines that promote learning independence. Using the 10 Steps to Independence and the Daily 5 Literacy Structure you will gain new insights on keeping students engaged and moving forward. You will dive deep into CAFE to learn the instructional protocol that allows you to assess, differentiate instruction and effectively deliver whole group, small group or individual focused lessons. Boushey and Behne will also showcase how using a conferring notebook can help track student strengths and goals, record next steps and makes sure no students fall through the cracks. You will build your confidence and expertise in teaching students of all levels, with any curriculum, how to be independent literacy learners, and walk away with an exclusive how-to guidebook and online resources to help you implement what you learned.

About the Presenter(s):
Allison Behne

Allison Behne is an enthusiastic and innovative educator who enjoys a diverse professional life. During the last 19 years, she has taught PK, K, 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 10th, 12th, and at the university level, working as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and professor of education.

Currently Allison is a professional developer and writer for The 2 Sisters. Her work includes the Parent Pipeline, Lit Lessons, Common Core Alignment to CAFE, lead articles for the Tip of the Week., and more. Most recently Allison has spent time working closely with Gail to develop the Essential Elements for Daily 5, CAFE, and Math Daily 3. She is also the lead instructor for the Online Seminars.

In addition to her work in classrooms and with The 2 Sisters, Allison is an Assistant Professor of Education at Upper Iowa University, where she teaches the Daily 5/ CAFE and Math Daily 3 graduate courses. Her passion lies in empowering educators to think ‘outside the box’ and critically examine instructional practices by asking, “What is best for my students?”

Gail Boushey

Gail is a passionate educator, author, and speaker. Throughout her career, her vision and focus has been: to find a replicable, reliable way to teach children how to be independent lifelong learners, starting in their early years.

Gail is co-founder and owner of The 2 Sisters, and co-author of the best-selling books The Daily 5: Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades; and The CAFE Book: Engaging All Students in Daily Literacy Assessment & Instruction; more than a dozen professional development DVDs; established The Daily CAFE and CCPensieve websites as a resource for educators, and has continued to develop the knowledge base ever since.

Gail started her teaching career in North America and now works with teachers and students throughout the world. She is an elementary teacher with experience in grades PK-6 and in Special Education. In addition to being a classroom teacher, she also worked as an Instructional Coach.

If you are unable to attend a session and unable to provide fourteen FULL business days’ notice, please feel free to delegate an alternate to attend in your place.
